As you can see, our beloved mascot at the front entrance has taken on the role of “Historic Figure Lost in Arctic Expedition.” In solidarity with Chuck, and more importantly to give our staff time to dig themselves out at home safely, The Book Barn will be closed today, Tuesday, February 24th.
Today is for shovels, snowblowers, hot coffee, and regaining feeling in one’s toes. Tomorrow is when our crew will begin the great digging-out of the Barn itself.

Welcome to the Book Barn, a haven for book lovers in Niantic, CT. Nestled in a charming oasis, our bookshop boasts a collection of over 350,000 gently used and rare books, surrounded by delightful gardens, fun games, and even adorable farm animals. With the perfect blend of literature and adventure, the Book Barn offers a unique retreat for bibliophiles and adventurers. As we enter this new year, we are announcing that, from November 1st, 2026, to March 31st, we will be closed on Mondays and Tuesdays. This is a hard-won decision; we are traditionally open 7 days a week, but rising costs make it imperative to adjust to today's changing economy. Our hours of operation will remain the same, open at 11 AM and closing at 6 PM. We will also remain closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day. We will be open 7 days a week from April 1st to October 31st.
We would like to thank everyone for their continued support of the Book Barn. Hopefully, this change will help The Book Barn thrive in the coldest months of the year.

Need to sell your books?
We buy books every day outside at the Main Barn location.
No appointment is necessary; it is first come, first serve. We buy books all year round from 11am to 6pm. We are open 363 days a year. If it is raining, snowing, or below 20 degrees Fahrenheit with wind chill, we are unable to buy books. If in doubt, call us before you come out.
